It’s very unlikely to be mites, they usually but not always scratch a lot with mites but it mostly begins around the ears & eyes rarely in a patch like this.
If you can’t figure out the cause you could still try giving him a pinch of flax seeds daily (linseed) & a drop of evening primrose oil on food, I’ve found this to work really well with hair loss & general coat & skin condition.
