The steroids affect the adrenal glands and increase the cortisol output (when it needs reducing). Metacam affects the kidneys but only in a toxic dose but is also contra indicated with Cushings.

Good to hear that Cocos vet says the meds would do no harm. My thinking though was that if steroids improved things it could well be allergy as that is what steroids are good at treating.
