Maybe stupid question, how big a gap do you leave under the water spout for smaller hamsters? I want to attach a water bottle to the side of the cage but I might wait till I actually have the hamster for that.

I had no idea so measured Edwina's water bottle spout. It's 4cm from spout to base. All my dwarfs like a water bowl as well so have both, bottle and bowl.
