I'm still in two minds whether to seal this - i just wiped it down with a mix of vinegar/water and that seaped under, I had to turn the whole thing upside down to release the pressure so it could dry and not stain the wood. If that hadn't worked I was going to have to undo it all to dry it off. It's the only fault, otherwise I love this cage, really well made and solidly built.
I know going forward I could put the hemp mat there, but I'm thinking it might be best to just seal it now before I put everything in it.
Is this the sort of sealant i would need to be using?

and do i really need to do the sealing oustide as I have got the cage in place now and no way am i going to be able to move it on my own?
