Like Cypher says if you could post some picss of your setup it may help us. From reading your description you may want to try adding some things like a cork or whicker tunnel or make some out of boxes. It did'nt sound like you had anything like that.
Cypher 770 sq inches must be near enough 100 x 50 cm as that equates to 774 sq inches if I remember right (off the top of my head)
