I personally wouldn't assume it's genetic right away. There could be other causes, and it would be very helpful to consider the possibility of non-genetic issues first along with getting proper vet care.

Some things you mentioned actually sound like what I experienced with hamster dehydration. Pedialyte or a similar unflavored electrolyte boosting liquid would be absolutely critical if this is what your hamster is dealing with, but even with treatment some hamsters just won't make it. Of course it may not be dehydration which a good hamster vet would be able to determine.

I would definitely get proper vet care from a vet experienced with hamsters though. We're not vets and can't say with absolute certainty what is or is not going on with your hamster.
