The noises in the car may just have been due to hm being stressed, they can make some strange noises when scared.
What kind of cage set up do you have, if you could post a photo it would help to see if there are any changes you could make that would help him settle.
Does he have a good size house with deep substrate underneath & other hideouts so he feels safe when he's out & about in the cage?
It's very early days so he may just need time to settle in.
