I don't think this sounds like cage rage due to him outgrowing the cage, as at 1 year and 9 months old he would already have been fully grown for some time.

How is he when he's free-roaming? Is his behaviour normal then? It might be an idea to check anything that you have changed in the cage that could possibly have triggered this. It might even be something external to the cage (those high-pitched noises that are inaudible to us but picked up by small animals) such as plug-in pest controllers or air fresheners, or perhaps a flashing light that's bothering him. Could you move the cage to another room to see if that makes a difference? It's also worth checking his general health, making sure he's not in any kind of pain or discomfort and that his teeth are not bothering him.

I do hope you are able to find a solution. It's harrowing to watch our pets when they're not happy.
