It might be controversial, I have loved all my pets, but don’t take them to the vets for lumps and potential cancer type things if they are eating and appear happy, I think it is an individual decision for you to make based on the quality of life your hamster has now, yes there may be a time when you need to go to the vet to help his pain but until then do what feels right
