I'm not sure if you've already gotten sorted but if you want to decrease the height for climbing and you have plexiglass it might be a good idea to use the plexiglass against the walls so you can fill the cages height mainly with bedding as hamsters like to burrow and for Syrians 8 to 10 inches of bedding are recommended.
