Personally, I would start with veggies or fruits that have a lot of pigment (beets, berries, etc.). You can mash by hand or use a blender. If the food paints don't satisfy you, then I would try nontoxic paints. Erin's Animals channel on YouTube makes a lot of of hamster-safe paints and she gives recipes, so you might want to check that out! I hope you have fun with your painting project! I hope you post a picture of the results when you're done!
