Default Re: Housing Dwarves Together?

A single hamster is best regardless of species(not breed, as this is a very inaccurate term when used with hamsters). It is definitely not natural for dwarf hamsters to be living together in same sex pairs or groups, especially in the relatively small cages we use in captivity(even the 100 cm x 50 cm cages would probably be nowhere near even a fraction of the potential territory of a single hamster). There are very real negative impacts to the immune system, behavior, and overall stress level to hamsters and owners when you take the unnecessary and quite frankly pointless risk of housing multiple hamsters together.

Some people will say you can try and set up a cage a certain way and/or have a certain cage size but that is not a good idea either. By housing multiple hamsters you limit your potential enrichment, you limit everything that can safely go in an enclosure, and even how much floor space an individual hamster would have.
