Ria, I thought you would know about the issue with humans just as I did. It was the vet who explained that it is the same with any mammal. Cats and dogs could be helped but not hamsters. I switched Maestro to a bowl at souffle's suggestion. The hamster water bowl holds 40mls with hamster vitamins to help with nutrients now. This amount lasted 24 hours at first and gradually it was empty after 12 hours. I now add another 20 mls in the middle of the day. Yesterday, for the first time, there was actually a little left in the evening. Fingers crossed this continues. Until a few weeks ago he drank the standard Syrian amount of 5-10mls daily depending on how much moisture he had from fresh veggies. I knew this because I change his water daily and to a specific level in his classic water bottle and I checked consumption daily. That was how I spotted when drinking began to rise and then to a level beyond what might be expected in an older hamster.
