Default New hamster won't stop screaming

Last friday i got a new syrian hamster. It's the second hamster i've ever owned, and over the past few days i've realised that my first hamster has not made me any wiser on how to tame this new one it is very very scared, from the first time i got it, it has been screeching like crazy. Over the weekend i let it stay in the cage with as few interruptions as possible, but even if it heard me be near the cage or speak, it would start screeching again. I have managed to feed it from my palm and it has let me pet it once, but only when it is distracted, the moment it realises whats happening, it'll turn onto its belly and scream.
I've been looking for advice on different pages but no other experience i've read about sounds as extreme as this one so i figured the best thing would be to ask personally.

The hamster was bought from a pet store and i think it's a female(i havent been able to get close enough to see properly?). It does eat, but not very much, and it does drink water. It does not sleep all through the day and will change places between a small nest its made with toiletpaper and then it will climb up the bars behind its wheel and sleep squeezed between there.

What would be the best way for me to tame this hamster and make it realise i'm not a threat?
