I am trying but I can’t visualise exactly what the issue is. Could you post pictures?

Is it a horizontal sliding door? A horizontal sliding bolt might not the the best idea if so, it’s designed to stop a door swinging outwards. What you might use is a vertical restraint so something that slides upwards or downwards into an end piece? Or just two eye pieces and a padlock?
