Hamsters normally like to change sleeping places from time to time but I think it stresses out a hamster if their cage is cleaned daily so I suggest cleaning only different parts of the cage if you want to clean it daily and leave a part of his cage the same.
I clean once a week and After I'm done cleaning cage for my Hammy Bear she usually changes sleeping location and moves her food stash and she'll stay there for a week til I clean her cage again.
Alfie might just need a bigger cage to have more sleeping areas too, like how big is his cage right now? Is there enough hideys for him to sleep in?
