Hi and welcome. I'm a new hamster owner too or he owns me to be correct. This place is a fountain of information as you will see once you start browsing this site. I got a Syrian hamster from the pet shop and bought the one that was first in the queue trying to get out of the display cage. People recommend to get one from a breeder but i couldn't find one locally. Let us know what kind of hamster you're going to get once you've decided.
