Pellets of any kind don't really make good substrate, can you get any paper based substrate or something like carefresh? Any pine needs to be kiln dried & dust extracted to be safe.
A small amount of alfalfa hay would probably be ok occasionally but they shouldn't have much alfalfa in any form really.
