Default Re: Newly bought hamster and public transport

My hamsters have travelled a fair few times by public transport and they’ve always coped with it pretty well. If they’re not travelling in their show pens then I’ll pop them in a carrier with plenty of bedding that they can make themselves comfortable in, a source of moisture such as a chunk of cucumber and a bit of food and they usually go to sleep. To reduce the risk of them being disturbed by onlookers you can then pop their carrier in a fabric bag for life.

Where are you getting your hamster from? I’ve found that most of my hamsters from club/show breeders cope very well with the journey to their new homes and their taming has not really been an issue but a pet shop hamster that has not had a head start with taming before they come to live with you might need a little bit longer to settle after a long journey before you can start the taming process.
