Welcome! I’m also an older hamster owner of a Syrian, and sort of a “neighbor” of yours, being in Massachusetts.
Chiclet is my very first ham, and luckily the taming went very well and she is comfortable with handling. In fact, occasionally she’ll quietly sit still in my hands when I’m holding her (usually I’m holding my breath, hoping the magic moment will last!). Of course, most of the time she’s a wiggling bundle of energy.
