Yes his behaviour is very normal, you've only had him 2 days. Best leave him & the cage alone for 1-2 weeks now. That includes no cleaning anything just so he can settle in nicely. He'll be quite stressed now so it's no wonder he's hiding a lot. Don't worry about taming just yet, there's no rush and you can start that in a week or two depending on how quickly he settles.
