Default Re: How to get hamster out for cleaning cage

I keep my hamsters in quite big cages, 100 x 50 for syrians and from 80 x 50 for dwarf hamsters and just clean them half a cage at a time every month or six weeks.

I spot clean. My hybrid dwarf wees in his sand bath which makes it easier, my syrian uses part of his nesting area as a toilet.

The roborovski just goes anywhere and most of the poo seems to drop to the bottom of the cage.

I offer my hamsters a pringle tube, jar or cardboard box to transport them into a play box whilst I do cage cleans. They soon learn that the tube, jar or box represents an exciting change of scenery and happily climb in.

Erins animals on youtube has an excellent hamster cage cleaning video.

Best of luck!
