Sounds like he has already settled really well
I would start signaling when you are going to feed - we rustle the food in the dish and chat to them and now they do tend to get up when we do that and come out to see what is on offer. With children in the house I do think it is important that you can wake the hamster up for playtime so that they can share time with their pet. A lot of people will encourage their hammy out at breakfast time. Ask the children to eat theirs then they can give the hammy one Cheerio or a teaspoon of Ready Brek - most will be up and waiting for their breakfast once they get the routine!
