A full shelf or almost full shelf would make it very dark in the cage, probably better to put a couple of smaller shelves & just make sure that access is easy & there are no hard surfaces to fall onto. You could put something like the large hanging rat tubes (best to use safe string not the chains though) going from one shelf to the other too.
