On the mouse catching front....
Do you know what kind of mouse it is?
You may have wood mouse. I had 2 instances over the past year of "rogue" wood mouse getting into my house (over winter). They look different to the "house mouse".
I used a rentokil humane trap with peanut butter. Caught it first time and released in a park 3 miles away. Very easy, very quick..and very cute I may add!
A 2nd one got in months later and I did the same. haven't seen any return since.
Another option worth considering over the kill option first, If you have many mice, I would consult your landlord and see where they are getting in etc
