Default Archimedes...The Trouble Maker

Today marks what I'm classing as Archimedes's 6 month birthday. From what P@H told me, he was born on Christmas week. The day of the week (Tuesday) is the day that I picked him up. This thread is a continuation of his intro thread but is dedicated to the trouble and chaos he gets himself into. And of course his fluffy cute-ness.

Archimedes Cage Silly-ness.jpg
As the title suggests, he can be quite a handful, especially for a first time hamster owner. He is finally coming out of his shell and he can be a very cheeky little boy when he wants to be. When he sets he's mind to doing something, he will try anything he can think of to achieve it. I either have to give in and let him or completely block off or remove him from the area. I should point out that he doesn't normally climb on the mesh but he does once in a blue moon, he's never tried monkey bar-ing in the top lid though.

Following dreamtree1234 advice, I put a bed sheet on the sofa to stop him chewing it and trying to get inside. So he figured out a new way of being daft. I had to place a tall storage box under his target zone, he seems to like this box for some reason as he still keeps going in there.

"Now what are you going to do Mr Archimedes? Your going to need my help now aren't you? Silly boy."
I'm STILL trying to teach him basic physics...Obviously, it ain't working out too well .

Cage Setup.jpg
Archimedes is of course living in My Medium Sized DIY Cage. The inside dimensions are 1470mm (57.87inch) by 507mm (19.96inch) and has 7434.09 ²cm (1152.28 ²inch) of floor space excluding the floor space of three shelves and taking into account the loss due to the two side shelves vertical supports. This is his current cage setup. For some reason last week he started chewing the mesh on the top lid, I hung a small bendy bridge with some sisal string and punished him with kisses and cuddles which seems to have worked. Ill leave the bendy bridge there for a few more days, remove it and see if he starts again. If needed I can replace the mesh on the top lid with acrylic panels.
I do also have a “medium” cage from P@H which is only 56cm (22inch) by 37cm (14inch) that I place him in if I need to do something to his main cage and for if/when I need to take him to the vets. While is not big enough for him to live in, it is big enough to use for a travel cage. I let him in there once a week just so he is used to it, he’s happy to wonder in and out as he chooses.

Finished Cookies.jpg
Day one of three of his birthday celebrations. I baked him some yummy cookies protein cookies with porridge oats, crushed mealworms, egg, flax seed, linseed and sultanas. I’ve posted the full recipe here. Ill post a picture later when he wakes up of him eating one…or tries to pouch it whole *rolls eyes*.

Anyway sorry it’s a bit late in the day but I hope you like these pictures.
Take Care
