Actually, salt licks aren’t necessary for your hamsters, and I would avoid them. Though it is important for your hamster to get some salt in their diet, lots of it can be harmful to your hamsters body and kidney. If your hamster is lacking salt or has a salt deficiency, there are much healthier options. As for the sharp edges I would avoid them just to be safe. Hope this helped!
