The detoft glass one is popular but not without it's drawbacks. For the cost of making these you can get a ready made hamster cage of a decent size and accessorise it too.
I'm not sure I agree with the part of the detolf cage being more expensive than a ready made hamster cage. The detolf worked out significantly cheaper for me for the same floor space compared to other cages. But then again, I suppose that could be because I don't use a lid.

I'm not sure if you've already seen this video, but it kind does touch on the addressing the smell and the sealing of the cage.
