Default Plasti-Kote - Is the spray safe?

Hello there!

I'm new to the forum, so I apologise in advance for any mistakes. Also, you can skip the next paragraph if you like, my question will be below it.

So I rehomed a dwarf hamster a couple of weeks ago from a friend as they had to get rid of her due to moving house. I haven't owned a hamster since I was a young child, so I've been trying to do plenty of research to try and make her life with me a happy one. This includes getting her a new cage, since she came to me in a small plastic one that just isn't fair for her to be in. She also only had a *very* thin layer of sawdust, a too-small wheel, a food dish and a water bottle. That's it. No hide, no chews or toys or anything. Straight away I got rid of the sawdust and replaced it with a deep layer of Carefresh that she likes to dig and sleep in, added a sandbath, chew and a toilet roll tube. Can't fit anything else in for now, but that'll change soon thankfully. I also have a Wodent Wheel waiting to be put into the new cage.

So a family friend is making a new wooden cage for me, and I've been trying to find something to coat the wood to make it waterproof. I've seen posts on here recommending Plasti-Kote, although mostly the paint on one. My question is: is the spray on kind also okay to use? I've tried searching but I'm getting mixed results, with some saying not to use it, and others saying it's fine.

What's the general verdict? The price seems better for the spray with how much you get, although I will pay for the tub if needbe of course, it's pretty much just in case we can't find the paint tub in the shop here. The quicker I can get the stuff and get her into a new home, the better

Thank you!
