Just bear in mind that soldering to zinc coated steel won't be the easiest thing to do. I've not tried doing this but normally soldering to steel is a real pain to get right. Small amounts of hot glue therefore would probably be better. If you do use solder though, make sure you use lead free solder and NOT leaded solder, also make sure you remove the flux build up afterwards, both leaded solder and the flux within leaded/lead-free solder is danagerous to hamsters.
