Syrians especially are hard wired to live in a warm climate (Syria!) If they get too cold they can go into torpor (what some people call hibernation) and rarely come out of it, or if they do they can die shortly afterwards.

I go with keeping the room at the right temperature. When the heating is on it's fine but you can get freezing temperatures overnight, so have a little oil filled radiator on a timer that comes on for a couple of hours in the night.
