I Think you are right, I will try my best to leave him with family. Unfortunately I do not know anyone who is experienced with hamsters...maybe if I reach the point that I can not find anyone, I can try asking around on this forum, although I think that asking a stranger to hamster sit for 3 months is a big responsibility.
