I think this topic has come up before and the consensus was - it's not a good idea. No they won't let them go as cabin baggage and yes they might die on the trip in the cargo area. It will be noisy and I thought it was cold in there too? And it would be very stressful. I wouldn't do it. Last time this came up, the person posting was looking at going by ship (that had it's issues too). I think there were some airlines (very rare) who would let you take them as cabin baggage but then there was some other rule that meant it wasn't possible.

Are you going away but coming back after a few weeks? How old is your hamster? It does sound like finding someone to take care of your hamster might be best, but if it's for a long period it might be better to rehome as the hamster will get used to the new environment.
