Hi and welcome to HC! As others have said this is perfectly natural behavior and shouldn't be of concern unless he is losing weight. I would definitely invest in a scale to weigh you ham regularly so you can be aware of any changes. I would just fill his bowl every couple of day and when you do his cage cleaning you can begin to estimate if you need to increase or decrease the number of days in between filling his bowl and the amount that you are feeding him depending on the amount of stash you find hidden. I would also be sure to remove any uneaten fresh foods so it won't rot. Hammies tend to eat them on the spot and not take them to their nest so most likely this won't be a problem. Since Eros is tame, I usually try to feed her fresh veggies and treats outside of her cage so I can be sure she is completely finished. I find it to be a good bonding time for us, too.
