I’ve yet to find a way to stop the behaviour entirely and my chinese are terrible for it. I have found that the more you clean it the more you encourage them to pee on their wheels and the worse the problem seems to be (they like their wheels to smell right). I usually clean the wheels every 2-3 days and then only with warm water so that there is no soap smell for them to want to get rid of and I’ll never clean the wheels on the same day I clean the cages.
