I thought citrus was bad for hamsters too.
My Kashi used to bar chew when she first moved to mine from the pet shop but once she had her 100 x 50cm barney cage with lots and lots of fitch bedding to dig in and loads of cardboard toys/boxes with food hidden inside she gradually stopped.
