Default Re: New to the forum

On some of the German forums the people NEVER clean out their cage / tank, especially if the hammie is potty trained. They clean the toilet, remove fresh food that's not eaten in a day and that's it.

The droppings are so dry and so hard that there's no smell and no contamination problems. When you think about it, they are prey animals in the wild, so it makes sense that the droppings don't leave a smell to lead the predators to their home.

I use the same method with my hammie as I do with my plants (and I was a professional gardener): learn all you can about their origins and how they survive in the wild, and try to replicate the conditions.
