Some would say no, but there are studies that show light really does affect a hamster's circadian rythym and overall health. If you can move your ham to a naturally lit place, that would be ideal. However, a lamp wouldn't hurt either. A lamp plugged in isn't going to add much at all to your electric bill yearly
