Default Re: sugary treats?

There's a lot of research still going on into diabetes not all of it substantiated so not everything you read is going to be reliable or helpful.
In hamsters diabetes is largely genetic but you have no way of knowing if a diabetes prone species will go on to develop diabetes or not so I think it is always best to feed a diet that is least likely to cause problems, it's not healthy for any animal to have blood glucose levels that fluctuate wildly which is what happens when sugary foods are fed so it's always best to err on the side of caution & keep your ham healthy as possible by feeding a diet that only contains low levels of natural sugars & is free from any added sugars or foods that are high in natural sugar.
