Default Keeping a hamster in the living room

Our Syrian, Kalli, is currently kept in our spare bedroom, which is fairly quiet. We chose this as we were told to keep her in a quiet room by the pet shop. From reading things on here, it seems like lots of people keep their hamsters in the living room. We couldn't at the moment but we are moving house in a month or two so maybe then we could.

Is it a good idea to keep them in the living room, so they are more used to sounds/you being around? Is it not true that electronics like the TV can make annoying sounds to them? It would be nice to be able to see her without always going in the other room, as she is always aware we have come in and waits for food/doesn't just do her own thing while we are in.

Thanks!
