Has the vet said why her teeth need clipping?
It sounds to me as though she probably does have a malocclusion if she can't open a sunflower seed when her teeth have been clipped, does she manage to eat her dry mix ok?
If she does have a malocclusion then her teeth will never meet in a way that allows her to use them normally & wear them down so regular clipping is the only answer really.
