And the advantage of having such a tall bin cage is you can half fill it with substrate, so your hammy can dig tunnels - it's about one of the best things you can give them - loads of substrate - 20cm deep or more (the Germans say 30cm). Which in itself will reduce the height. But even without deep substrate, as the others say, a hamster will escape - they are great escape artists.
