From Home Depot you can get 1/2 inch hardware cloth(aka wire mesh)which could cost about $16 or so for a really nice sized roll that will last a lot of different DIY projects.Untreated pine is the other thing you'd need,and a very basic(even cheap if you want to go cheap)drill to put things together.It's definitely more useful than a reptile lid,as while a reptile lid is effective enough for ventilation it's pretty much impossible to hang toys from the tiny holes of reptile lids.

You might need to look at a few different hardware stores and maybe even try to find a local source for lumber if it comes down to it.
