None of mine are really tame. A couple of them have play box time (transported by box or pringles tube) and one has a lot of interaction through the bars (me feeding her).
Taming is for the owners benefit. I love being able to stroke my fluffy boys but not too bothered about handling.
Sounds like your hamster is doing well.
