Default Re: Can hamsters have uncooked rice?

I don't know about hammies, but I wouldn't risk it.

When I need to know something about safety foods I check here Was darf ein Hamster fressen und was nicht? | Ausführliche Listeand here Einführung in die Ernährung und Futterliste - Futter und Ernährung - www.das-hamsterforum.de. These lists only say that is ok to give them rice flakes and paddy rice.

The problem is that I know that uncooked rice isn't good even for humans, and where I live in the past it was used to kill doves (when our ancestors had plagues), and do you know why that happens and why did it cause that? Because it absorbs the humidity and it swells and doubles its size, so it's heavy for our stomachs, and the dove stomachs couldn't handle all inside and they "exploded".

So... as I said, I wouldn't give it to my ham unless anyone could tell me that is 100% safe
