Default Re: safe and healthy hamster treats

My dwarf hams seem to like millet but not my Syrians. And I think it's quite high in fat so just be careful of that, but then that's true of a lot of things you can give as treats such as sunflower seeds and mealworms so moderation is the key. Meal worms seem popular with mine as are sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. If you're worried about over feeding fatty treats you can sometimes pick out their favourite bits from their food bowl to feed them by hand. Be aware that quite a lot of pet shop treats are very sugary such as the yoghurt drops, which I wouldn't feed. I've found some more natural based ones that don't appear to have added sugar, that I think have been by Rosewood Naturals? Like carrot based ones. But some of theirs do and some don't so you do need to check the ingredients for individual products. Not sure what brands you get in the US though.
