I don't have an Alaska as I use tank style cages and my female Syrian, Cleo, likes a big underground nest so It's pretty deep in one corner. I might try Fitch at some point in the future but at the moment for all three of mine I use Carefresh or shavings or often a mix of both. I prefer the Carefresh but the shavings are a lot cheaper so it's a good way to bulk it out. Sometimes I'll put a layer on the bottom under the Carefresh, sometimes I'll zone the different areas but mostly I just mix it all in together. Might be worth trying to give you more depth?
