The Alaska is fine temporarily and also as a travel cage and play cage and such!However,eventually upgrading to a square meter DIY would be really good in the future
Have you considered doing 4 Lack tables from Ikea?That would be a very cheap DIY,even if it wouldn't look as good as a lot of the more expensive ones,however it would be a square meter cage for an excellent price with minimal DIY work.
