Lol! Maybe he just wanted to have a sniff of you. That sounds promising. Although 10 or 20 minutes is still enough to start driving you mad. Maybe start giving him some out of cage time if you can - in a playpen area or in the bathtub where he can't escape (assume he isn't tame yet). But best to do that at a time when he isn't chewing the bars (maybe the same time of day each time) - so he doesn't start thinking you'll let him out if he chews the bars.
