I found the video when a US member was asking about different species of hamsters and pros and cons to keeping them

Michy - There are a few debatable points about it - particularly to do with bedding - I personally wouldn't use printed paper from a shredder! And the substrate could be deeper. But there are other paper beddings, alternative beddings and Carefresh. I think any bedding could have bugs in, but thankfully you don't hear of that often. I think it's true that hammy's can be allergic to any kind of wood substrate. Some are, some aren't.

As Ceretrea says there are quite a few threads on different substrate types if you look around on the site

This was a poll from last year that lists a lot of them and peoples suggested pros and cons
